I spent hours transcribing this in hopes to share this amazing culture and music to those who are not familiar with it. With the score, you really see/hear how the rhythmic patterns and chord changes come together.
This score transcription is my best approximation of what Mariachi Vargas played in the recording. I say “approximation” because there are still many stylistic things that I am unable to notate. Keep in mind mariachi music is folk music, so there are no “definite” recordings nor “correct” transcriptions. If you listen to different groups play this same song, you will hear small differences between them. Here I picked Mariachi Vargas’ 1958 recording simply because it’s a great recording, and it’s the closest version to how I’ve been playing it for many years.
This recording also features the "gold standard" arrangement every modern mariachi group model after.
Errata:
* ms. 98-105 trumpets: should take first and second violin part.
* ms. 154, 158: second violin and second trumpet should have concert A on the first beat.
* 110-111, 118-119 vocals: "seda" bottom notes should be concert A.
* 71, 75, 79, 123, 127, 131 armonia: first beat should be D not D7. "
